The previous and current seasons highlight a clear trend of market diversification for Moldovan apples, particularly considering the Russian Federation’s embargo on Moldovan fruits. In the previous season, Moldova exported over 6 thousand tons of apples to Asia and the Middle East. This trend continues in the current season, with increased quantities of apples being sent to destinations that received the initial deliveries in the previous season, including Israel, United Kingdom, and Sweden.

The European Commission has renewed and extended the suspension of import taxes and tariff quotas on Moldovan exports to the European Union until June 2024. As a result, Moldovan fruits have experienced a significant surge in their presence on the European Union market in recent years. Consumers have had the pleasure of enjoying the authentic and unique aromas of cherries, plums, apricots, grapes, and Moldovan apples.

Iurie Fala, the executive director of Moldovan Fruit Producers and Exporters Association says: “In recent years, we have successfully exported 25% of our apples to 22 countries in the Middle East and Southeastern countries, as well as to 14 countries in the EU. Moldovan exporters possess international certifications such as GlobalG.A.P. and GRASP, operate modern orchards, and have all the necessary post-harvest facilities. The remaining apple export potential from the 2023 harvest in Moldova is approximately 130-140 thousand tons, including varieties such as Gala, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Red Chief, and others. Thanks to favorable climatic conditions last year and carefully managed cultivation methods, Moldovan apples boast consistent color, good caliber, and, of course, a unique taste that makes the difference.”

For importers keen on exploring the advantages of adding Moldovan apples to their inventory, Moldova Fruct Association extend their warm invitation to the “Moldova taste makes the difference” country stand at the Fruit Logistica 2024.

Fala adds: “It’s an opportunity to witness our commitment to quality, sustainability, and the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships. Join us at our networking event “Taste Without Borders”, on February 8, 3:00 PM, hall 7.2B, A-30, for a pleasant atmosphere, interesting discussions, and a comfortable conclusion to the day.
